OVERALL SHORT DESCRIPTION
Under limited supervision, conducts accurate and verified
descriptive and statistical analysis of patterns of care and
outcomes, validates results from other analysts, and prepares
reports for dissemination and presentations. Assists in designing
health care study protocols and statistical analysis plans,
sampling methodologies, data file layouts, report layouts, and
case selection criteria. Serves as a resource for other health
care analysts. Mentors junior health care analysts. Supervises
junior health care analysts as assigned. Takes lead responsibility
for analytic projects as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and quality of
work products.
- Applies advanced SAS programming skills to analytic
problems.
- Documents and validates SAS programs.
- Develops and evaluates complex statistical models.
- Implements and interprets complex analyses.
- Validates, manipulates, imports, and exports complex
databases.
- Prepares clear and complete project documentation.
- Prepares technical reports and presents findings.
- Identifies analytical and methodological problems and
develops solutions.
- Designs, attends, and participates in training. Presents
findings at meetings or conferences.
- Plans and manages analytic activities.
- Participates in the RFP process.
- Contributes analytic support for papers and writes
methods/results sections.
- Responds to client concerns and requests for information.
- Mentors junior health care analysts.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable for the timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and
quality of all assigned work.
WORK CONDITIONS
Office/Administrative work. In this position, the employee is
not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/COMPETENCIES
- Ability to sit at and use a computer terminal for extended
periods of time.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Ability to communicate face-to-face and through
telecommunications and written correspondence with individuals
using the English language.
- Ability to understand presentation information.
- Ability to travel occasionally by motor vehicle and/or
aircraft.
- Ability to adhere to established company confidentiality
policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in epidemiology, statistics, public health,
or related field with at least five years of experience in the
health care field OR bachelor's degree with seven years
experience in the health care field.
- Minimum of five years experience manipulating health care
databases and in developing and interpreting data analyses.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills, including formal
presentation skills.
- Advanced SAS programming skills.
- Advanced data management skills.
- Advanced proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet
programs.
- Advanced knowledge of survey research methodology preferred.
- Advanced statistical analysis skills preferred.
- Knowledge of health care data, managed care industry, HEDIS/CAHPS
preferred.
- Knowledge of NCQA and CMS policies and procedures preferred.
- Experience with basic geographic information systems
preferred.
