Senior Informatics Analyst

Service Line: State & Corporate Services

Status: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, the Senior Informatics Analyst oversees data acquisition validation, warehousing, and analysis of informatics data, with particular focus on survey, case review, medical and prescription drug claims, eligibility, disease management, and disability data. The Senior Informatics Analyst also actively leads the design of statistical analysis plans and defines case selection criteria and variable parameters. The Senior Informatics Analyst will work closely with the Director, Informatics and Surveys, and Manager, Informatics, to assist in the development of novel Informatics products. Initially, the Senior Informatics Analyst's primary project responsibility will be to lead activities on the Hospital Outpatient Department Quality Data Reporting Program Support Contractor CMS Special Project and state Medicaid External Quality Review Organization survey projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Proficient in evaluating a wide array of data types, including survey, case review, medical and prescription drug claims, and eligibility data.
  2. High level of proficiency in the use of SAS, conducting and interpreting primary analyses, conducting secondary and exploratory analyses, developing appropriate statistical models, determining sample sizes, manipulating complex databases, and tracking and evaluating patterns of care and outcomes.
  3. High level of proficiency in additional programming languages, including (but not limited to) VB6,VB.NET, VBA, and C#.
  4. Responsible for novel product development, including automated reporting products across a wide array of data types.
  5. Upon request, perform critical review and synthesis of the health care literature in support of written publications.
  6. Verify and ensure the accuracy of all assigned tasks, including the documentation and validation of SAS and other programs. Identify problem areas and develop solutions, working as a collaborative member of the Informatics Team.
  7. Attend and participate in Informatics team, project, staff, and training meetings.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders while representing HSAG in a professional manner at all times.

Accountable for the timeliness, accuracy, and quality of all assigned functions and tasks.

WORK CONDITIONS

Office/technical work. In this position, the employee is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/COMPETENCIES

  1. Ability to use and sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
  2. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  3. Ability to communicate face-to-face and through telecommunications and written correspondence with individuals using the English language.
  4. Ability to understand presentation information.
  5. Ability to travel occasionally by motor vehicle and/or aircraft.
  6. Ability to adhere to established company confidentiality policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Masters degree in computer science, public health, related social science, business economics, math, or statistics.
  2. Minimum of five years recent experience performing health care data analysis using SAS, including experience analyzing eligibility, claims/encounter, provider, health care survey, and other forms of health care data..
  3. Experience evaluating systems, with emphasis on evaluating health care systems using a "systems" approach.
  4. Knowledge of the SAS programming language, including Base SAS, SAS/MACRO, SAS/STAT, and SAS/GRAPH. SAS certificate preferred.
  5. Expert knowledge of other programming languages, including VB, C#, and other common languages used in product automation.
  6. Experience with relational databases, SQL, and other reporting tools.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and work with multiple teams.
  10. Experience in managing projects, including identifying requirements, determining priorities, and tracking and resolving issues.
  11. Ability to type 50 won with minimal errors.
