Leading Phoenix Physician, HSAG CAC Member Dies
Oscar
S. Gluck, MD, prominent rheumatology professor at the University
of Arizona, died of a heart attack on July 23, 2004, while traveling
in London, England, with his wife Rosemary, according to the University
of Arizona.
Dr. Gluck served on the HSAG Consumer Advisory Council (CAC),
representing the Arizona Latin-American Medical Association. As
Arizona’s QIO, HSAG convenes a CAC to provide consumer input
to health care quality improvement projects.
Born March 18, 1949, Dr. Gluck earned his medical degree from
the Universidad del Valle, in Cali, Colombia, according to the
Web site of Desert Southwest Fitness. He completed his internal
medicine and
rheumatology training at the Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis, Mo.
In 1980, he founded the Arizona Rheumatology Center and served
as its director.
Dr. Gluck authored articles on postmenopausal osteoporosis, steroid-induced
osteoporosis, systemic lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. His research
appeared in several medical journals, including the New England
Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Rheumatology, Arthritis
and Rheumatism, Osteoporosis International, and the Journal
of Clinical Densitometry.
He was on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical
Densitometry and on several committees of the American College
of Rheumatology and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.
Dr. Gluck was also a consultant to the Arthritis Advisory Committee
of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and an invited speaker
at multiple scientific meetings, both in the United States and
internationally.
“Dr. Gluck was a friend of mine for more than 20 years,”
HSAG CEO Dr. Herb Rigberg said. “He was an energetic, well
respected, and wise member of our CAC for many years. His presence
will be missed.”
