Taking Control: Arizona Launches National Diabetes Education
Program
Through the Arizona Diabetes Initiative (AzDIn), Health Services
Advisory Group (HSAG) kicked-off local activities in support of
the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP). NDEP is a federally-sponsored
initiative that involves public and private partners to improve
the treatment and outcomes for people with diabetes, to promote
early diagnosis, and to prevent the onset of diabetes.
The goals of the Arizona effort, led by Health Care Consultant,
David E. Barger, MSEd, CHES, are to:
- educate older adults about the importance of self-monitoring
blood sugar levels as an important component of a successful
diabetes management plan
- inform Medicare patients of the Medicare benefits that help
pay for diabetes equipment and supplies (such as blood glucose
monitors, test strips and lancets).
- provide a public relations opportunity for AzDIn and emphasize
the power of collaboration!
The campaign will target approximately 2,000 physicians in Maricopa
County.
