Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG), has contracted with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for more than 30 years to serve as the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Arizona, California, and Florida. Moving forward, CMS is taking its first steps in restructuring the QIO Program to improve patient care and health outcomes and save taxpayer resources.
In the new structure, case review and quality improvement functions are performed by different contractors. Beneficiary and Family Centered Care (BFCC) QIOs will now manage all beneficiary complaints, quality-of-care reviews, and appeals to ensure consistency in the review process while taking into consideration local factors important to beneficiaries and their families. On the other hand, Quality Innovation Network (QIN) QIOs will work regionally with providers and the community on multiple, data-driven quality initiatives to improve patient safety, reduce harm, and improve clinical care at their local and regional levels.
Effective August 1, 2014, KEPRO BFCC-QIO is serving Medicare beneficiaries in Florida and Ohio, and Livanta BFCC-QIO is serving Medicare beneficiaries in Arizona, California, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. After July 31, please direct all questions to your states’ BFCC-QIO.
HSAG will continue to serve as the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization for Arizona, California, Florida, Ohio, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
