Hospital Projects
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' new three-year
Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract with HSAG, known
as the Seventh Scope of Work (7SOW), runs November 1, 2002 through
October 31, 2005.
We recognize a golden opportunity to organize a successful approach
to these projects among Arizona hospitals which can lessen the
burden placed on hospitals. HSAG will convene statewide and regional
meetings to answer your questions and develop a mutually satisfactory
approach to fulfilling these new requirements.
Projects and Quality Indicators
The Seventh Scope of Work is based on quality improvement projects,
four of which are to be completed by every acute care hospital
in the United States. The four modules include:
- Acute
Myocardial Infarction (AMI)
- Congestive
Heart Failure (CHF)
- Pneumonia
(PNE)
- Surgical
Infection Prevention (SIP)
The other two, diabetes mellitus and breast cancer screening,
do not involve hospital inpatients directly.
Like previous quality improvement projects, those of the 7SOW
are based on changes in the percentage of patients receiving specified
indicator services relative to a baseline value.
