HSAG has been under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) since 2003 for the national implementation and continued coordination of the CAHPS®
Hospital Survey (HCAHPS). HCAHPS is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients' perceptions of their hospital experience. While many hospitals were already collecting information on patient satisfaction for their own use, until HCAHPS, there was no national standard for collecting and publicly reporting information about patients' experiences that allowed valid comparisons to be made across hospitals locally, regionally, or nationally.
Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (HOS)
Since 1998, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted with HSAG on its nationwide Medicare HOS for participating Medicare Advantage Organizations (MAOs). The goal of the Medicare HOS Program is to gather valid and reliable health status data in Medicare managed care for use in quality improvement activities, public reporting, MAO accountability, as well as for improving health outcomes.
Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS)
Since 1999, HSAG has administered the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Survey in English and Spanish for numerous state Medicaid and managed care organizations across the country. The CAHPS program is a public-private initiative designed to develop standardized surveys of patients’ experiences with ambulatory and facility-level care. Health care organizations, public and private purchasers, consumers, and researchers use CAHPS results to assess the patient-centeredness of care, compare and report on performance, and improve the quality of care. Provider (Provider Satisfaction) Surveys
Provider satisfaction surveys are paramount to capturing provider perspectives about the plans for which they work and the Medicaid managed care health care delivery system. Since 1995, HSAG has administered more than 10,000 provider surveys (including provider satisfaction surveys) to specialist and primary care physicians in a variety of practice settings. HSAG works with customers to identify and develop the most appropriate provider survey for the population and topics of interest.
