The Disparities Webinar Series, produced in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital’s Disparities Solutions Center, is designed to help HSAG HIIN hospitals boost their capacity to address disparities in health and care. Disparity reduction is integral to efforts in quality and patient safety, and a CMS high priority for HIIN hospitals.
This webinar will focus on reliable capture of data on patients’ race, ethnicity, and language (REAL) as a prerequisite for understanding and reducing disparities. It will cover minimum standards for data collection, discuss challenges commonly faced by hospitals, and offer practical strategies for overcoming them and improving validity and reliability of REAL data collected in hospitals.

Speakers: Aswita Tan-McGrory, MBA, MSPH, Deputy Director; and Karey Kenst, MPH, Senior Program Manager, at The Disparities Solutions Center. Their expertise and leadership has helped dozens of hospitals collect quality data on race, ethnicity, language and other social determinants of health, and develop disparities dashboards that stratify quality measures by race, ethnicity, and language.
