Summary from 11/1 Pacing Event: “Safety Across the Board: Tools and Approaches for Addressing All-Cause Harm”
This Pacing Event focused on the concept of Safety Across the Board by sharing the work of the HIIN-led Affinity Group to develop a Safety Across the Board Resource Guide for HIINs and hospitals to use in their efforts to address all-cause harm. The Resource Guide provides information and resources, as well as presents seven hospital-level case studies that are designed to share what hospitals can do and what they can achieve.
To share this information and highlight resources and examples that HIINs and hospitals can apply in their work, the session featured presentations from:
- Lynda Martin, RN, BSN, MPA, from the Premier HIIN, and Tania Daniels, PT, MBA, from the Minnesota HIIN, who served as the HIIN co-leads for the development of the Safety Across the Board Resource Guide and who discussed the development and intended use of the Resource Guide;
- Representatives from White Plains Hospital (HANYS HIIN) and Parrish Medical Center (Vizient HIIN), two of the impressive facilities that have case studies featured in the Resource Guide that discussed their efforts and shared the evolution of their work since the case studies were developed; and
- Tejal Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, Chief Clinical Officer for IHI and the President of the NPSF Lucian Leape Institute, who provided reactions to the work of the HIINs and their partner hospitals, as well as highlighted some of the available IHI/NPSF resources for organizations to use in their Safety Across the Board efforts.
The session was moderated by Kendall Hall, MD (NCD).
