Summary from 4/11 PFE Learning Event: “The Impact of Patient and Family Advisor Rounding on Hospital Quality and Safety”
Patient rounding is a meaningful opportunity for patient and family advisors (PFAs) to identify potential safety issues that can be addressed at all three levels of the hospital - bedside, policy and procedures, and governance. During this week’s Patient and Family Engagement monthly learning event, participants:
- Learned about the PFA role in rounding and the goals of this role
- Did the “Take a Walk” approach with a PFA to learn: What do they do and how do they do it? What do they look for? How do they feel it helps patients and family members as well as the hospital's overall quality and safety goals?
- Identified improvements in outcomes and other benefits in hospital quality and safety due to rounding by PFAs.
