According to a study by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, nearly 45 percent of all adults in California have pre-diabetes or diabetes. This Daily News article points out that the diabetes rate in the state has increased by 35 percent since 2001. Furthermore, the percentage of adults with diabetes in Los Angeles County (~10 percent) is higher than the state rate (~9 percent). Worse still, in neighboring San Bernardino County the diabetes-related death rate is 50 percent higher than the state average. Read more about this in the Daily News article.
