Higher levels of the enzyme, autotaxin, greatly predicts memory impairment and Type 2 diabetes, according to Iowa State University researchers. A slight change in autotaxin levels from level two to a three is the equivalent of 3.5 to 5 times an increase in the chance s of being diagnosed with some memory loss. Yet, autotaxin is a greater predictor of Type 2 diabetes. A single point increase in the enzyme indicates a 300 percent greater risk of contracting diabetes or pre-diabetes.
