Older Women At Greater Risk of Developing Diabetes While Taking Statins

Statins, while helpful in reducing the generation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in patients, also decrease insulin sensitivity according to several studies. In a 10-year Australian study of over 58,000 women across various age ranges, statin therapy was associated with a 33 percent greater risk of developing diabetes. The researchers noted that as statin dosage increased, so too did the risk. Read more at Diabetes In Control.
