Treating Diabetes in Older Adults Requires Simpler Medication Regimens, Looser Glycemic Targets

Better adherence and fewer complications are attained through simpler drug regimens and more flexible glycemic goals, according to the Clinical Practice Guideline issued in late March 2019 by the Endocrine Society. The guideline debuted on the opening day of ENDO2019 at the annual meeting of the Society. An emphasis on simplifying drug regimens and customizing glycemic targets for patients with cognitive impairment, along with a focus on minimizing hypoglycemia were top-line recommendations.
