Among patients with type 2 diabetes with high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, index statin treatment modifications that potentially imply possible statin intolerance and/or ineffectiveness were frequent, according to researchers in this September 2015 British Medical Journal article. Low use of high-intensity statin found in this study also indicates gaps in the management of hyperlipidemia among patients with type 2 diabetes and possible remaining unaccounted lipid residual risk. Better management of these patients with diabetes is recommended by study researchers to reduce CVD risk.
