Tobacco Companies Dibersify Into 'Pharmaceuticals'

Scientific investigators from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) wrote in the Annals of Medicine that the tobacco industry is pursuing pharmaceutical development to achieve “long-term nicotine maintenance, rather than total tobacco cessation.” The industry’s approach researchers say is based on a couple of false beliefs: most smokers cannot quit; and for those smokers who do quit, it is only with pharmacotherapy.
