CMS Awards HSAG New QIN-QIO Contract to Serve Nearly a Quarter of the Nation’s Medicare Beneficiaries

PHOENIX—The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it has awarded a new, five-year Medicare Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) contract to Health Services Advisory Group, Inc. (HSAG), for the states of Arizona, California, Florida, and Ohio starting August 1, 2014.

“For more than 30 years, the highly skilled professionals at HSAG have worked to form a successful healthcare quality improvement organization,” said Mary Ellen Dalton, PhD, MBA, RN, HSAG President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are extremely pleased to partner with CMS to create a new approach to improve healthcare for those who deliver and those who receive health services. We will work strategically and collaboratively with our partners in our QIN-QIO states.”

About the QIO Program

HSAG will carry out activities that will be community based and occur in healthcare facilities and clinical practices. HSAG will drive quality by providing technical assistance, convening learning and action networks for sharing best practices, and collecting and analyzing data for improvement.

HSAG will work on strategic initiatives to improve patient safety, reduce harm, and improve clinical care administered to Medicare beneficiaries at local and regional levels. With offices in all four states, HSAG will work locally within communities and use technology to expand the organization's reach to all outlying areas.

To perform this work, HSAG will continue to engage healthcare providers, stakeholders, and Medicare beneficiaries and will bring the voices of beneficiaries, families, and caregivers into the center of local healthcare quality improvement initiatives to successfully improve health quality, efficiency, and value.
